Dear Brother Gardner:
I have just
received your letter and will answer
it and hope you will get it. I am
very sorry you are sick and you must
get well as soon as you can. I thank
the boys very much for taking such
good care of you and hope you will
never find worse. I cannot write much
for it is just night and I must send
it to the office. We are all well as usual and
I hope this will find you much better.
Mother says she would write a little
but she has not time to night. Col.
Kellogg is going to raise a cavalry regiment
in this state and they are going to camp
here. it will make lively times and you
had ought to be here, but you are not
and I suppose you are contented where
you are I hope so. I have not been
out to see the soldiers yet and
dont know as I shall. I hope you can
send your picture for I want to see
it very much. but had much rather
see the original. supper is ready (does not
that sound natural) how I wish you
would step in and eat with us to
night. Celia went down to Seament
on a boat ride, yesterday and I guess
she had a very good time but she is
pretty tired to day. she says tell Gardner
to be a good boy and when he gets
into a fight to fight like the old
dickens. I have got 40 links of that
chain done and if you do not come
back before long I shall have it all
done before you are ready for it. I
was weighed the other day and I weigh
just 100lbs, don’t you think I grew
heavy? Mother says she would
have
liked it have gone to the stairs this
morning and said. “Gardner, break-
-fast is ready. Aunt Emily just
got a letter from Guile he writes
that he is pretty well but feels some
like having the ague. Joel has been
sick but is better now. I must
now close, with many hopes that you
will soon be well. Write soon as you
can.
Your own Sister Mary.
I guess your chase after Billy Mc
Niel the other night was rather
to much for you.
Good night Gardner, take care
of you self, for my sake.
Mary.
