I Love Mary
Head Quarters 6th Regt 1st A.C.
Camp Return P.a.
August 1st 1865
My Mary
Darling Wife.
I wrote you last night
and have no news to tell you now. Whether
I can get away or not is uncertain. Three
officers have been granted “leaves”and three
more are expecting them soon. The major
says we are so short of officers that he cant
get any one to take my place. If he dont
look out he will have to get one all the
time for though I dont wish to leave
the service and shall enter it again
if I do. I can resign without any
trouble and shall do so if I cannot get
home without. I sent Leonard fifty dollars
yesterday. hope he will come down here
soon.
Love and many kisses.
Always your Gardie
