My Darling Wife,
Mary,
I have expect-
ed a letter from you these two
days past. but the mail is in
and I must wait another day
we have been living in sand
and dirt ever since I came
until last night when we had
a beautiful shower which has
laid the dust, I beleive I
never was so dirty the wind blew
a perfect gale hurling the sane
in piles into my quarters fill-
ing every crevice with its accursed
presence. I wonder “Artie”
told you of Alberts doing and
it would not be well to crow
ere one is out of the wood. he is
liably for arrest at any moment
if he has made the money from
his stores in charge and will
stand a good chance of going to
the Albany penitentiary which
would have a bad sound.
The War Department have issued
an order directing all troops
in Rendezvous not enlisted for
the Regular army to be discharged
wehether whether we will come
under that head is uncertain,
David feels terribly because some
one does not write him from
Michigan says he shall not write
until he gets some letters.
I do not know but I shall
forfeit my Life Policy by not
taking a War risk. but I do
not think it best to pay a hun-
dred and fifty dollars any way
and if you think best you
might ask Sinclair or
Crosby how it will be in
case I stay a year. I
understand no more appoint
ments are to be made for this
Corps, but have’nt it officially
Send you a copy of the Chronicle
with an account of Booth’s
last moment which is quite
interesting.
Love and best wishes to all
Love and a kisses to my “Girl.” Wife.
Always your
Gardie
