My Loved Wife.
Once more
in camp. I am afraid for
good. We reported here yester-
day. and found the 1
st A. C. in
a deplorable condition three
Regts. organized and gone
into the Shenandoah Valley
more than four more on the
ground and not an officer to
a company on the average but
five in my Regt. the Sixth of
which I am appointed acting
Adjutant and expect to be
permanently assigned as such
Major Middleton of New York
is temporarily in command
We have plenty of me but
hardly any Officers some officers
have recruited over a hundred
men. I could probably get
a Captaincy but dont want it
if I can get the Adjutantcy.
The Major had his wife
here until yesterday and she
is coming back in a few
days he can get a house near
by, he wants me to have
my old “Girl” down here. Which
of course I wont do. We are
not to be mustered for some
time may be never, but can
draw our pay all the same
might have drawn mine
in Detroit. shall draw up to
the last of this month within
a few days. David is well
has been detailed at Corps head
quarters as orderly. he is in
the 5
th. Job is also well.
Blakeslee is assigned to Co. “A”
of the 6
th. In my last I sent
you an order for forty four
dollars hope you will get it
I get borded for a dollar a
day cheap enough is ent it.
No I’ll not feel so big when
my office is out and I wish it
was out.
Yours Ever with Love and
a kisses,
