We have beaten the enemy badly taken many prisoners + stores. We made a reconnaissance across the Potomac yesterday all + found the enemy in force. The 118 [  ?  ] Vols, in our Brigade suffered se- verily. Our loss was light. One man killed, one wounded + two missing. I was [  ?  ] on the shoulder with a bit of shell but only scraped + our only a little sore this [  ?  ]. Shine is a report that our main army is going to Williams- port.
