Regiment: 4th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Braxton Bragg Tuesday night Sept 30. 62 My dear Davidson It is now midnight and we have been busy packing for a march to-morrow. We ar- rived at Jeffersonville opposite Louisville Sunday morning. We stayed there until yesterday afternoon, when we moved about a mile back from the Ohio River on the In- Diana shore and pitched tents. To-night we have received march- ing orders to report over in Ken- tucky at day light to-morrow. The whole army has gone in pursuit of Bragg toward Cumberland Gap They moved to-night We are to be put in the advance with the Michigan 2d Cavy. We probably shall swell powder in less than 48 hours. Our regiment is totally unprepared for any such experiment. No matter we are in for it. I send by express to Paw Paw my trunk. I can not carry it with me, so have cut myself down to the merest necessities. In Niles I saw the Pautlinds. Before you re- turn to Kalamazoo I wish you w’d go over and visit them. Did you get my photographs Let Mrs P. have one of the full length, full face ones and a vignette if she writes it. I am tired and very sleepy and must stop.
