Regiment: 4th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: No 3 In our own private hospital In a farm house about 4 miles from Munfordville on the Bowling Green Road Nov 7, 62 My dear Davidson Yours of 31st received. You see by this that I have caved and gone into medical quarters for a few days. I was obliged to come to it. On the 29th I began to feel ill being very bilious and suffering from a diarrhea. I remained in camp doctoring until the regiment moved on the 1st. I was not well enough to go with them, so remain- ed with the sick, about 200. On the 4th they received orders to be moved the next day. I went to the Surgeon and asked him if I would be able to go. he examined me thoroughly and told me to leave camp and get into a bed at once or I should be down with typhoid fever in less than 24 hours. Capt Meldor was already sick at a farm house about 2 miles from camp so I rode over there (here). Here I found comfort- able quarters and a kind host +hostess. I have kept closely to my room and a part of the time to my bed since being here. I suffer principally from a di- arrhea which I cannot work off. A great many in the regiment are troubled with it. I shall remain until I get better and then join our regiment which is moving towards Nash- ville. I have nothing particularly new to tell you since I wrote. As you suggest I number this letter + shall after this. Read the enclosed and send me if you can a package of Cayenne pepper by letter or mail. I know from experience it is good and I can not procure any here. I should also like a few postage stamps.      It was a mistake about our baggage at Jeffersonville being robbed so I still am the happy possessor of that brass buttoned coat.  (how Does the in- terest come in? I would not think it a good idea for still to collect interest + money in Paw Paw and give receipts. We may have trouble after this if he does. Has Jas. H. Peters on the Dis list Nov 1 done anything. the man in Berrien Co. E.B.D. Hicks last year paid extension for two years so that this year he will have to pay $20 interest and you are to pay Jot $25. Nov 19th the extra $5 he paid last year to run until next. I never gave him cre- dit for it to Jot. You understand. There were three Dutchmen in Berrien Co (Nov 4) What have they done? Di Craner + Her- bolshimmer come up? Did that bound Howe Journal reach Mrs. Pautlind from Detroit yet? You know the marking was wrong. Did you get the rest of those photography? Nov 8. I feel better to-day tho’ I shall not leave here for several days after I get well. I have been advised not to expose myself too soon. I do not yet know in what brigade or division we are. We have been changed from one into another once or twice. Write for me to N.Y. Let me hear from you Yours affecly R.B. [On Envelope:] J. Davidson Burns Esq Kalamazoo Michigan
