My dear Davidson
I wrote you on the 20th inst
by Charly Kendall enclosing a draft for $260. This
I write that you may know it is coming. If you
receive that first, consider this cancelled. Be
sure not to take it from the Post Office.
We still remain “in statu quo era[ ? ]” when
I wrote you several weeks ago. All of your
letters I have received. Col Minty is still
in Murfreesboro. The 4
th Michigan is at Chat-
tanooga and will probably be engaged in the
approaching battle. Rumor to-night says they
(or it) have gone to the assistance of Burnside.
I almost feel that I ought to be there. I never
before was away from the Regiment in a battle
It has been terribly used and is now nothing
but a skeleton of its former self.
I suppose about this time (8 PM) to-morrow Willy
will be taking upon himself the marriage vows.
Good luck to himself and bride, say I. You
and he must keep a corner in each of your
homes for your bachelor brother. It probably
will be a long time before he has one of his
own. I have nothing to write since
