My Dear Brother
Enclosed you
will find a draft on N.Y. for
$14.87 which I send for Fanny
Davenport. Please acknowledge
receipt to her. She will go
to Buffalo in a day or two.
I arrived here yesterday
to see what was to be done
about the war and have come
to the conclusion that there
is very little probability of
being needed. This state
was called on for only two
regiments and already enough
have offered for six. I
brought down a muster roll
with me of a company formed
in our county, and think it
very doubtful if they will be
accepted for weeks, and may-
be not at all. I have writ-
ten Davidson to return to his
law books and drill only
in his spare minutes. The
law office in which he
was in Kalamazoo is now
empty his senior and all
the clerks having volunteered
and being now here in camp.
I think he will have to go
into a new office. There
are hundreds of men here anx-
ious to be enlisted who need
a private’s pay. I have not
yet seen any thing of Willy.
I shall return to Paw Paw to-
morrow. All well here. Give
my love to all.
Yours affecty
R. Burns
