My dear Davidson
We have just re-
ceived “marching orders” and on the
morning of the 28
th are to go to East-
pert and cross the River. It is sup-
posed that we will move through the
centre of Alabama and strike Montgom-
ery and Selma. There however are
camp rumors. All we know is that
we are packing up our tents and sending
away all surplus baggage and strip-
ping down to our fighting costume.
This will probably be my last
campaign, and in it I hope I shall be as
fortunate as in the others, coming
out without a scratch. Wounds
may be berurable, but getting shot is
very painful. I shall try to
keep you posted. I always do so when
on the march, much better than while
lying in camp. When we have nothing
to do, I am to lazy to write a word
to anybodey. I hope soon
you may hear of me by way of Mobile.
Give my love to Mother and Madge.
I wrote you a few days ago. Have
not heard from any one since.
Write soon.
Your affect brother
