Regiment: 4th Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Abraham Lincoln, James H. Wilson, Jefferson Davis Hd Qurs 2 Brig 2 Div Cav Corps Macon Ga. April 29, 1865 My dear Davidson By a flag of [ ? ] I am enabled again to send you a few lines. I had intended to have had a long letter ready for you but on account of laziness am, as usual, too late.  I wrote you on the 23d inst, but am doubtful whether you received it. We are here in the heart of the defunct confedera- cy, and can yet neither send nor receive letters. and it is not yet exactly safe for us to venture alone beyond our picket lines.     Rather a strange sort of lie we are leading now. Howell Cobb + Genl Wilson hab-nobbing. A rebel officer and your brother amicably discussing the late war. When we shall be home, I cannot tell, probably not until the expiration of our term of service. Jeff Davis may think of going west of the Mississippi, and we may again be wanted. Isn’t Lincoln’s death a terri- ble calamity? Lieut Heywood has just called for my letter + I must close, I am very well, Good bye Yours Affecly R.B. Love to mother + Madge [On Envelope:] J. Davidson Burns Esq Kalamazoo Michigan
