My dear Davidson
As you said a
line would be sufficient. I will
send it to you. I arrived
safely this afternoon escaping
perils by flood + field. All
the Cavalry are out, and the Camps
nearly deserted. Expect them home
to-morrow. Am feeling very well
and hope soon to be fit for
duty, The country is so beautiful
here that one can not help en-
joying it. Every thing is green and
flourishing as with you on the 1
st
of June. I have just had a
good supper of new milk and some
cakes I foraged in Niles. The hand
has commenced to play in front of
[ ? ]
[ ? ] and I shall light your pipe
and enjoy myself. Love to Mother
and others. Ever yours affectionately
