My dear Davidson
I am well
and I
[ ? ] of peace with
the Confederacy. I have but
time to write a word or
some of our
[ ? ] officers
leave to-night and will
carry this. The day before
yesterday we entered here and
ar we were skirmishing on
the outshirts, we were met
by a flag of truce giving
us information of the
[ ? ]
tice. Peace at last and
a successful one. Thank God.
The confederacy is ours, and
fairly won. Since the
22d
[ ? ] we have been en-
gaged in the most success-
ful and destructive raid of
the war. We captured Selma
Columbus. Montgemery and
Macon. over 6000 prisoners
more than 200 pieces of ar
tiller and have destroyed
millions of dollars worth
of public property. We had
a severe fight at Selma
[ ? ]
entrenchments and had a bloody
time. I can not now enter
into particulars. See the new
York Herald and there I think
you will find an account
of our doings. I have never
been in tighter place than
during the last month but
thank the Lord. I escaped
without a scratch. I am
perfectly well. and am in
great hopes of seeing you soon
Good bye. I will write
you all as soon as I get an
opportunity.
tell Mother she will
have all her boys at home
shortly. Isn’t this glorious
Peace and the Union.
Give my love to Madge. Tell
her to keep me a room
Good bye again
Your loving brother
