Camp Michigan, Va.
March 17, 1862
Dear Mother:
We are under orders
to march at 9 this morn.
Of course it is not to
Manassa’s, as that is evacuated
The report is that our
Division is to march to
Alexandria & get on board
the Transport Boats &
sail down the Potomac
to Acquia Creek, or perhaps
to Burnside at Hatteras.
This is all conjection.
We are in a great hurry
packing up. We are all
very glad that we have
received marching orders.
In haste; your son
Caroden
I should hardly think it
worth awhile, to send him papers
just now, until we know where
he is, L J S
but do as you think best
Direct as before till you hear from
me again
