Oct. 13th 1862 Dear Parents It is with much pleasure that I now address you pleasure to know that you are all well. Often Oh! how often do I think of home the place dear to every feeling of Cherished memory. Dear because hallowed by a mother love, fathers care. Dear because from there. We drew what- ever is of live thats sweet. I love to think of it to wander in mem- ory over the happy scenes of childhood to imagine my self a child again clasped in the sweet embrace of a fond mother. With warm kisses implanted on my cheek Gladly, Joyfully would I return and receive once more a mothers blessing live for a time amid the smiles of those I love did but cruel war Stay its hand did but mad wicked fiendish rebels quit their evil work cease their fully acknow- ledge our flag their flag. our God their God return again to duty & obediance and become members of the free and world wide respected household of our venerable father uncle Sam. Its a happy feeling to know that I am thought of at home. Since I last wrote we have changed Camp then near Sharps- burg. Now near Antietam Ironworks on the Potomac. Our duty is guarding the river. We are now en= camed near where the 17 & 20. Mich has been. They have left. There is an impression that we will re- main here some time. The “Rebs” have made another raid into Pensylvania. Another of their actos of necessity to get food forage and plunder. There is a rumor in camp to day that all or, nearly so, of them have been captured. I have its true its about time that our troops put an end to such depredations. Now to my unknown acquaintance Mrs Dyer. Though I think I would like much to see her and further thank her by word of mouth for proffered friendship and kind encomiums. Give her from me the kindest regards of a soldier. And when this ungodly rebellion is ended. I sincerely to be able to return, in heart and soul the same, but with mire experience than when I left. I saw W. Bravender the other day the regt has gone to Harper Ferry. he send respect to all. An gain thanking all parents & friend.
