Regiment: 12th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Abraham Lincoln May 5th, 1865 Duvalls Bluff Ark Sister Jane i have just received and read your second letter i am not very well but wtill i do duty i was on picket the last 24 hours and just came in this morning i think i would be well but i have a diaree for the last two weeks i wrote to you as soon as i get your first letter and i got them all that was sent to Jackson i am vary sorry that you have not heard from george i wrote him a letter from here direct to him but iff you dont get any letters i am afraid i never will get an answer from mine the day Mr Lincoln was buried was hald sacral here the flag was half mast and 13 big guns in the morning early and 1 every half hour all day an 36 guns at sun down and thare was no work don on the roads nor fortifi cations the stores was all closed and the doors was hung with black crape and hour rigimenhat is to be dressed in morning for the next six months and the officers swords pike will our head officers are all fine men the Capt name is graves first lieutenant is Mr [ ? ] second is sturns the men most off them thinks we will be sent home this sumer and i hope we will the duty here is not hard for a man that is well Jane i know your doubts and fears about george i can simpa thise with you but trust in the lord he that [ ? ] all things well i have got to [ ? ] from [ ? ] when i get this i must close remember me when you pray Give my Respects to ma and all that may inqire Yours [ ? ] Brother Ezrea G Blanchard
