August 29th/64 Cousin Mary I received your letter datted Aug. 21st. and was glad to hear from you and hear that were enjoying health. I am getting along very well now. I am wounded in the right breast. I have no use of my right hand or arm. I am in a hospital situated just out of the citty of Washington. it is a plesant place although it is full of sick and wounded soldiers. the wether here is quite cool for the time of the year. I have been most well once. I applied for a furlow while it was being made out some thing got in my wound and it broke out again. My furlow lays now in the hospital office. I presume I will get it as soon as I get able to ride home. You must excuse me for not writing any more now. when I get so I can write my self I will indivor to write more Give my best respects to all my friends write soon and Oblige Your Affectionate.
