Regiment: 13th Michigan Infantry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: August the 12 1862 Mr I I Major Dear friend this morning as I had a few leasure moments I thought wood write you a few lines the 4 of July I got bothe from you it was dated the 11 of April and I answer it the same day and have receive noswer I thaught I wood wright to you again for if you had writen to me the leathr is lost for we had our mail robed by the rebbs we are still in Alabama a town cold Stevenson we are fortifying hear we have about 300 Negros to hear the country is not vary good hear for it is betwen the Comber land Mountains the crops look well all through Missippy and Tenesee and Alabama whare we have ben 26 Sept hear Thare is some rebbs on the mountains but in small partys cornell Mitchel was shot last weak by a rebbs his rigment went out and ketched [ ? ] and hung them all thay thought thay wood make shure of the one that kiled thare cornel if thay cood we are about 33 miles from Chtanoga we hear thare is 75000 rebbs thare we are building a brige acrost the Tennesee River and then we will help them out of that we thought we wood be a [ ? ] hear but I think not now for we are getting to well fortifyed that for the rebbes now all movements as well as we do I want you to wright to me and tell me all the news wright to Louisvill Kentucky 13 Michigan Infantry Co E from your dear friend William Wallice Bass
