Regiment: 2nd Michigan Cavalry Battles Mentioned: Historical Figures: Charlotte Jan 4th, 63 Dear Parents I must say for the first thing that I am sary that I have kept you so long in suspence by my neglecting to wright it was not intended But it comes as though I never had so much to do in my life I hope that I have got thro- ugh the worst of my harde work for I have got my hous cleaned and burcher ing don Sarah is a better now I thin k than she has bin in a year I think her poor health has orignated from an inbargoment of the splean it has bin so large that it reached from the ribs to the grine and half way acrost in front and was very hard I am using [ ? ] oil and campor gum on it now It is six weeakes sence Louisa comencd her school she likes it well and they like her I She sed she would write to you but the holidays brought so meny things that she has neg- lected it but I think she will soon. she went to a party Christmas and Newyears We had a Christmass tree att our Cherch I helped what I could to get it up it was a beautiful thing and contained all maner of things the Children all had something L G and E had each a nice book Mr Williams had a donation last tuesday which we all attended except Lousa it was a very plesent time he received about seventy dollars it is harde times every thing that we have to sell is lo but we be to what we have to pay porke is onely too and 2 ½ cents live beaf 2 and three dressed but tea twelve and foreteen shilings leakes 25 [ ? ] from 25 to 35 and every thing in proportion We have a nuf to eat we have put up three hogs and three quarters of beaf and plenty of cabage and some opels yet I staide at home newyear and wash in the forenoon and had compeny in the after noon but I thought of you often and wonderd whare you all wair and if togeather I fanced Caroline at home I wante you to tell me when you write how you get along and how you get your wood and if you no what the reason is that the Girls donte wright to me eny more and tell me what Laeretia has new this winter and all aboute things I heard by the way of Jake Rafter folks that Leafette was taken prisner I have not the he was releaced Olde Mr Rafter has bin hear this winter I had a letter from Alse Roath a short time sence she said they wair all well but that Spencer and Charles Goodale ware boath dead Charlie died in the armey with the tyfoide feaver Samuel sends his love to you all and all enquiring friends and said he wishes you was hear he said if Pa had eny good blacksmith to spair he should send them hear for it harde worke to git horse shod for the money the men have moste all gown to ware I don’t know of eny news at present that is worth writeing it takes three fat hogs to pay our taxes this year we are all well and hope to hear from you soon and hear that you are all well Jeannett Arnold
