Bro & Sister
Once more I take the opportunity to inform you of my
whereabouts & situation. I am in usual good health & hope these few
lines will find you the same. We are 5 miles above Richmond on the south
side of the James River where we arrived day before yesterday on our
way to Alexandria VA. There we expect to get disbanded & sent to our
own states to be mustered out. The first division of our corps was the
first of Shermans Army to arrive at this place. We are now waiting for
the remainder to come up. Our supply train started this morning for
Alexandria, it is rumored that we leave day after tomorrow & have to
march at a distance of 120 miles. Will take about 6 days.
I wrote to Louise & Frank from Morris Station 14 miles North of
Raleigh NC & told them of Fletcher being gone from the company. He has
not come in yet, neither has he been heard from. The rest of the boys I
spoke of in that letter are all along with a good prospect of coming
home when I do. What time we shall be at home I am not able to say for I
do not know how long we shall be detained at Alexandria or in that
vicinity. I just hear it rumored that we leave tomorrow morning, the
sooner the better it will suit the majority for they are anxious to get
home. No more this time. With respect I am your Bro.
