About the Author
William A. Woodward, of St. Clair County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 3rd Michigan Cavalry Company H on September 10, 1861 at Port Huron, Michigan. He was mustered into service on October 12 at the age of 19. He was listed as being a prisoner of war from July 26, 1862 to March 3, 1863 at an unknown location. On January 19, 1864, Woodward re-enlisted at La Grange, Tennessee. He received several promotions including: Corporal, March 15; Sergeant, November 15; 1st Sergeant, January 1, 1865; Sergeant Major, June 11; and, 2nd Lieutenant, October 20. He was also transferred from Company H to Company G on October 20. William A. Woodward was discharged on February 12, 1866 at San Antonio, Texas. He resided in Port Huron, Michigan after the war.Documents for this Author:
