About the Author

Private Cyril H. Tyler, of Kalamazoo County, Michigan, enlisted at the age of 20 in the 7th Michigan Infantry Company I on August 14, 1861 at Wakeshma, Michigan. He was mustered into service on August 22. Tyler was promoted to Corporal on March 1, 1862 and then to Sergeant on September 24, 1863. Cyril H. Tyler was discharged on August 22, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia.
