About the Author
Luther Trowbridge was born on July 28, 1836 in Troy, Michigan. At the age of 26, he enlisted in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Field and Staff on September 2, 1862. He was mustered into service that same day. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on August 25, 1863. He was discharged for promotion on November 16. Trowbridge was commissioned into the 10th Michigan Cavalry on October 17. He received several promotions, including: Colonel, July 25, 1864; Brigadier General by Brevet, June 15, 1865; and, Major General by Brevet, June 15. Luther Trowbridge was discharged on September 1 at Knoxville, Tennessee. After the war, he lived in Detroit, Michigan, where he died on February 2, 1912.Documents for this Author:
