Charles H. Town, of Marquette, Michigan, enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company B as a Captain on August 8, 1861. He was mustered into service that same day. On August 22, he transferred from Company B to field and staff and was promoted to Major. His other promotion was to Colonel on September 30, 1862. Charles H.
