About the Author

Smith Taylor, of Branch County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 1st Michigan Light Artillery Batty G on November 7, 1861. He was mustered into service at the age of 45 on January 17, 1862. Smith Taylor was discharged for disability on August 27 at Louisville, Kentucky.
