About the Author
Frederick S. Stewart, of Pontiac, Michigan, enlisted as a Sergeant Major in the 10th Michigan Infantry on November 27, 1861 at Flint, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 26 on February 6, 1862. Stewart was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant on May 28. Frederick S.
