About the Author

Private Asa Smith enlisted at the age of 21 in the 6th Michigan Cavalry Company F on January 28, 1864 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day. Smith was promoted to Corporal on February 3, 1865. Asa Smith was discharged on August 16 at Washington, D. C.
