About the Author

Henry G. Sherman, of Juniata, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 23rd Michigan Infantry Company D on August 11, 1862 at Vassar, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 32 on September 12 and was later promoted to Sergeant. Henry G. Sherman was discharged from service on June 28, 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina.
