About the Author
George W. Sheldon, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, enlisted at the age of 22 in the 1st U.S. Volunteers Sharpshooters Company C as a Private on August 21, 1861 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service on August 26, 1862 and was later promoted to Communication Sergeant, then to 2nd Lieutenant of Company I on February 4, 1863. George W. Sheldon died on July 2 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was buried at the Gettysburg National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania at gravesite D-23.Documents for this Author:
