About the Author
James D. Shearer, of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 24th Michigan Infantry Company F on August 6, 1862. He was mustered into service at the age of 34 on August 15. Shearer was listed as being wounded on April 29, 1863 at Fredericksburg, Virginia and on July 1 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. His promotions included: Corporal; Sergeant; 1st Sergeant; and, 2nd Lieutenant, March 30, 1865. James D. Shearer was discharged from service on June 30 at Detroit, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
