About the Author
Thomas D. Scofield, of Ionia County, Michigan, enlisted at the age of 25 in the 27th Michigan Infantry Company D as a Corporal on September 5, 1861 at Lyons, Michigan. He was mustered into service on October 15 and was later promoted to Sergeant. At Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on July 13, 1862, he was taken prisoner and was confined at Macon, Georgia before being paroled. While at the Confederate Camp Sorghum, Scofield signed a petition complaining about the deplorable conditions of the camp. On February 27, 1864, Scofield was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was mustered into the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters on March 1. Thomas D. Scofield was discharged from service on May 15, 1865.Documents for this Author:
