Sabin, Alvin N.

About the Author

Alvin N. Sabin, of Memphis, Michigan, enlisted as a 1st Sergeant in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company E on August 15, 1862 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 20 on August 27. He was transferred several times from: Company E to Company F, May 28, 1863; Company F to Company K, April 3, 1864; and, Company K to Company C, December 19, 1864. Sabin received several promotions, including: 2nd Lieutenant of Company F, May 28, 1863; 1st Lieutenant of Company K, March 5, 1864; Captain of Company C, October 21, 1864; and, Major by Brevet, March 13, 1865. He was listed as being wounded at Newby’s Cross Roads, Virginia on July 24, 1863 and again on May 6, 1864 at Todd’s Tavern, Virginia. Alvin N. Sabin was discharged on June 19, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He lived in Detroit, Michigan after the war.
