About the Author
George W. Rose, of Brighton, Michigan, enlisted as a 1st Sergeant in the 5th Michigan Infantry Company I on June 19, 1861 at Fort Wayne, Michigan. He was mustered into service on August 28 at the age of 33. Rose received several promotions including: 2nd Lieutenant, May 28, 1862; 1st Lieutenant of Company B, July 22; and, Captain, June 23, 1863. On May 5, 1864, he was listed as being wounded at Wilderness, Virginia. George W. Rose died of his wounds on May 20.Documents for this Author:
