Robert Reynolds was born on July 21, 1834 and lived in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He enlisted in the 9th Michigan Cavalry Company C on November 10, 1862. He was mustered into service on January 22, 1863 at the age of 28. On July 1, 1865, Reynolds was promoted to Sergeant.
