About the Author
Captain Stephen P. Purdy, of Detroit, Michigan, enlisted in the 5th Michigan Cavalry Company H on August 14, 1862. He was mustered into service on August 30 at the age of 36. Purdy was listed as being wounded, however the date and place is unknown. He was promoted to Major on October 24. Stephen P. Purdy was discharged on May 15, 1865.Documents for this Author:
