About the Author
While residing in St. Johns, Michigan, Gilbert E. Pratt enlisted in the 8th Michigan Infantry Company B on August 12, 1861. He was mustered into service as a 28 year old Captain on September 23. On June 16, 1862, he was taken prisoner at James Island, South Carolina. Pratt was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 23rd Michigan Infantry on August 23, 1862. Gilbert E. Pratt was killed when he was thrown from his horse on April 10, 1863 at Bowling Green, Kentucky.Documents for this Author:
