About the Author
Albert C. Pond enlisted as a Musician in the 9th Michigan Infantry Company A on April 18, 1861 at Detroit, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 23 on May 1. Pond was later promoted to 1st Sergeant and then to Sergeant Major. On August 7, he was discharged from service at Detroit, Michigan. On August 26, Pond re-enlisted in the 9th Michigan Infantry at Detroit, Michigan and was mustered in on October 15. At Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he was taken prisoner on July 13, 1862 and later paroled. Pond received several promotions including: Commissary Sergeant, April 28; 2nd Lieutenant, June 23; 1st Lieutenant, July 27; and, Captain, September 20, 1864. Between October 1864 and April 30, 1865, he was Acting Quartermaster for the Department of the Cumberland. Albert C. Pond was discharged from service on September 15, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.Documents for this Author:
