About the Author
2nd Michigan Infantry Colonel, Orlando M. Poe was born on March 7, 1832 and resided in Navarre, Ohio when he enlisted at the age of 29 on September 16, 1861. He was mustered into service that same day. On February 16, 1863, he was discharged for promotion to Brigadier General of the US Volunteers General Staff. His other promotions included: Major by Brevet, July 6, 1864 in Knoxville, Tennessee; Lieutenant Colonel by Brevet, September 1 in Atlanta, Georgia; Colonel by Brevet, December 21 in Savannah, Georgia; and, Brigadier-General by Brevet, March 13, 1865. His date of discharged is unknown. Orlando M. Poe died on October 2, 1895 in Detroit, Michigan.Documents for this Author:
