About the Author
Alanson R. Piper, of Lenawee County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 4th Michigan Infantry Company B on June 20, 1861 at Adrian, Michigan. He was mustered into service that same day at the age of 18. On July 1, 1863, Piper was promoted to Corporal and he later re-enlisted on December 29. At Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, he was listed as being wounded on May 10, 1864. He was attached to the 1st Michigan Infantry on July 2. On July 1, 1865, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred from Company B to Company D. Alanson R. Piper was discharged on March 13, 1866 at San Antonio, Texas.Documents for this Author:
