About the Author
Frank W. Oakley, of Beloit, Wisconsin, enlisted in the 7th Wisconsin Infantry on July 29, 1861. He was mustered into Company K as a 1st Lieutenant on August 29. He wounded his right arm, which was subsequently amputated, on August 23, 1862 at Rappahannock Station, Virginia. Oakley resigned from service on December 29. On April 13, 1863, he was mustered into the U.S. Volunteers Quartermaster’s Department as a Captain and Assistant Quartermaster. Frank W. Oakley was discharged on August 10, 1865. He died in Madison, Wisconsin at the age of 34 on August 3, 1929.Documents for this Author:
