About the Author
Perry Oakes, of Flint, Michigan, enlisted in the 6th Michigan Cavalry Company C as a Private on September 6, 1862. He was mustered into service at the age of 19 on October 11. Oakes was listed as being wounded on July 8, 1863 at Hagerstown, Maryland and on July 24 at Thornton Gap, Virginia. He was promoted to Corporal on November 1, 1864 and then to Sergeant on August 1, 1865. Perry Oakes was discharged from service on November 24 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.Documents for this Author:
