About the Author
John Kemp Mizner was born on March 2, 1834 in Geneva, New York. Mizner was living in Detroit, Michigan when he was mustered into the 2nd U.S. Army Cavalry as a 1st Lieutenant on May 9, 1861 and was promoted to Captain on November 12, 1861. On March 7, 1862, Mizner was discharged for promotion to Colonel of the 3rd Michigan Cavalry Field and Staff. He had several other promotions including: Major by Brevet, October 4; Lieutenant Colonel by Brevet, June 12, 1863; and, Brigadier General by Brevet, March 13, 1865. He was discharged from service on February 12, 1866 at San Antonio, Texas. John Kemp Mizner died on September 8, 1898 in Washington, D. C.Documents for this Author:
