William H. Marston enlisted as a Sergeant in the 17th Michigan Infantry Company B on June 2, 1862 at Niles, Michigan. He was mustered into service at the age of 21 on August 26. Marathon was listed as being wounded on June 18, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. William H. Marston was discharged for his wounds on May 15, 1865 at Newark, New Jersey.
