About the Author
William D. Mann was born on September 27, 1839 in Sandusky, Ohio. He was living in Detroit, Michigan when he enlisted as Captain in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Company K on August 22, 1861. He was mustered into service on September 13 at the age of 21. On August 14, 1862, Mann was discharged for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel of the 5th Michigan Cavalry Field and Staff and was commissioned on August 27. He was discharged on December 1 for another promotion to Colonel of the 7th Michigan Cavalry Field and Staff and was commissioned on February 19, 1863. William D. Mann resigned from service on March 1, 1864. He lived in New York City, New York after the war.Documents for this Author:
