Lyon, Daniel

About the Author

Daniel Lyon, of St. Johns, Michigan, enlisted in the 16th Michigan Infantry on August 15, 1861 at St. Johns. He was mustered into Company H as a 21-year old Corporal on September 2 and was later promoted to 1st Sergeant. Lyon was wounded several times including: Malvern Hill, Virginia on July 1, 1862; Laurel Hill, Virginia on May 8, 1864; and, Hatcher’s Run, Virginia on February 6, 1865. He re-enlisted in the service on December 24, 1863 at Rappahnnock Station, Virginia. On September 27, 1864, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Daniel Lyon was discharged for disability on May 15, 1865.
