About the Author
George W. LaPointe, of Monroe County, Michigan, enlisted as a Private in the 7th Michigan Infantry Company D on June 19, 1861. He was mustered into service at the age of 19 on August 22. LaPointe received several promotions including: Sergeant, November 2, 1861; 2nd Lieutenant, September 18, 1862; 1st Lieutenant, May 20, 1863; Captain of Company C, September 21; Lieutenant Colonel, October 12, 1864; and, Colonel by Brevet, April 2, 1865. He was listed as being wounded on May 13, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. George W. LaPointe was discharged from service on July 5, 1865 at Jeffersonville, Indiana.Documents for this Author:
