About the Author
James H. Kidd was born on February 14, 1840 in Ionia, Michigan. He was 22 years old when he enlisted in the 6th Michigan Cavalry Company E on August 28, 1862 at Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was mustered into service as a Captain on October 11. His promotions included: Major, May 9, 1863; Colonel, May 19, 1864; and, Brigadier General by Brevet, June 15, 1865. Kidd was listed as being a returned prisoner of war on October 12, 1863, however the place of return is unknown. On July 14, Kidd was listed as being wounded at Falling Waters, Maryland. He was also listed as being wounded on September 19, 1864 at Winchester, Virginia. James H. Kidd was discharged from service on November 7, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He lived in Ionia, Michigan until his death on March 19, 1913 at the age of 73.Documents for this Author:
