Kellogg, John A.

About the Author

John Azor Kellogg was born on March 16, 1828 in Bethany, Pennsylvania. He was living in Mauston, Wisconsin when he enlisted as a Private in the 6th Wisconsin Infantry Company K on May 3, 1861. He was mustered into service that same day at the age of 33. On December 12, Kellogg was promoted to Captain and transferred from Company K to Company I. He was then promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on June 21, 1862. At Wilderness, Virginia, Kellogg was taken prisoner on May 5, 1864. Kellogg was promoted to Major and transferred from Company I to Field and Staff on September 1. Lastly, he was promoted to Brigadier General by Brevet on April 9, 1865. John A. Kellogg was discharged from service on July 14. He passed away on February 10, 1883 at Wausau, Wisconsin.
