About the Author
England native Charles H. Irvin was residing in Detroit, Michigan when he enlisted in the 9th Michigan Infantry Field and Staff on October 12, 1861 at Detroit. He mustered into service as a 29-year old 1st Lieutenant on October 15. On August 26, 1863, Irvin was discharged for promotion to Captain and Assistant Quartermaster and mustered into the U.S. Volunteers Quartermaster’s Department. He was promoted to Colonel by Brevet on May 8, 1865. Charles H. Irvin was discharged from service on March 6, 1867.Documents for this Author:
