About the Author
Joseph H. Hornback was born in Champaign, Ohio. He was a 38-year old carpenter when he enlisted in the 5th Tennessee Cavalry on July 24, 1862 as a 1st Lieutenant and was mustered into service that same day. On July 15, 1863, he was transferred from the 5th Tennessee Cavalry into the 1st Alabama Cavalry Company K. On March 21, 1864, Hornback was captured at Johnson’s Creek in Arkansas and was returned on May 15. He was mustered out of service on October 25, 1865 in Huntsville, Alabama.Documents for this Author:
